We recently installed an attic and under roof ventilation system on an unvented asphalt shingle roof. This metal roof had neither soffit vents or a vented ridge vent and when it was 96 degrees outside it was 150 degrees in the attic. The challenge was how to vent the roof and attic without the cost of adding soffit vents. We added our ventilation system over the existing roof, saving our landfills from more asphalt shingles, and saving dollars for our customer. In our next post, we will share the incredible results from this amazing automatic natural ventilation system.

We’ve begun installing our patented energy-efficient ventilation system for shingle roofs throughout the Fairfax Virginia area.  Previously, this type of roofing system we only installed in our Metal roofs.  But due to the high demand for energy-efficient Fairfax Roofing in Virginia, we’ve begun installing these new systems for customers in the Fairfax area.  Why choose our system?  Homes that our roofs are installed on typically notice the temperature in their attics dropping 25-30 degrees! Imagine what a difference this roof will subtract from your overall heating and cooling bill each year.  Give us a call at (540) 222-1642 or visit us on our website at https://alpharain.com

On April 18th 2014 we installed a new metal roof in Leesburg Virginia.  This is the live video we shot from the job site.  Please give us a call at (540) 222-1642 to learn more about our amazing energy efficient metal roofs.  We have complete many metal roofing projects in Leesburg and we’ll soon be uploading some new videos from those projects. In our last post, we shared our first version of a cool roof ventilation system that automatically vented the hot air through a custom vented ridge vent and replaced it with cooler air through a custom eave vent.

The photo below shows our latest improvement that not reduced the labor cost but also introduced a thermal break as well as a radiant barrier. This latest improvement not only addresses all 3 ways heat is transferred, it works on any roof style including asphalt shingles.

Our first attempt at installing a roof ventilation system worked great but was very expensive and labor intensive. As you can see this prototype started with a bubble foil bubble insulator and then a cumbersome wooden counter batten system Even though it really cooled the interior of this historic renovation on this converted barn it was labor intensive and expensive.

In our next post we will share with you our next step in the development of our roof ventilation system.

In our last post, we left you with our challenge on how to install this particular copper roof. As we noted we had a curved convex deck and a curved or convex hip as well as wider panels that our pan machine could make as well as a single lock hand-crimped 1″ standing seam application. The solution was pretty simple: we unpacked all of our hand tools from generations gone by and attacked the problem like our tinsmith forefather’s would have.

Here are the results: these hand made panels are hand-formed, hand-crimped and curved using a tool similar to the tool used on the male end of downspouts so that the panels are curved to match the deck. Simple right? I believe we have the best craftsmen in Northern Virginia!

We were presented with a unique challenge while installing this standing seam copper roof near Charlottesville, Virginia a while back. This actually was a breezeway porch that connected the guest suite with the main house. The challenge was that it had to match the existing single lock panels on the rest of the house and the panels were 22″ wide. Sense no rollformer can make a single lock panel that wide we had to hand form all the panels. The roof also was convex so all the panels had to be hand crimped. As you can see the hand crafted deck also had convex hips for the final challenge. In our next post we will show you how we overcame these challenges.
